A new fall rug

You might remember I make toothbrush rugs. I have one going almost all the time, I enjoy the mindless work and playing with color.

This is a truly thrifty one. The base of it is a sofa slipcover we used for years. It is a heavier weight so it makes the rug nice and sturdy. It's the first round one I have made - usually they are oval.

If you google toothbrush rugs, you can learn a lot about how to make these. It is a great way to use up fabrics - they all look better in rugs! Have fun!

  1. Oh.. The fun never stops. This looks like something I would love to do. I am going to definitely check it out.
You have just got me really excited! Your rug looks gorgeous. I have several of these around my house.. All store bought ones. It would be great to make one myself.

  5. Well, I gave this a go...found my tool, but the hole was way too small for my knot...so I ended up crocheting a sample that is now the center of a rug!!! what an inspiration you are. I've already used up at least a yard in fabric...it goes so fast! Now I'm adding in different colors. going for a small rug in front of the shower door. Yippeeeeeee! Thank you so much for your wonderful clear instructions.

  6. Saw that you re-pinned mine and found this blog. Your round one is probably one of the prettiest ones I've seen. I want to do a round one next. How wide do you cut your strips and do you fold them in half and iron them?

  7. thank you. I use 2" wide strips. i don't iron them! Just use them as they are ...

  9. I am from Kansas as well, but live overseas. I have been making quilts for awhile, and just started the process of a toothbrush rug making. It looks a little wonky, but I will persevere! Your rug was beautiful. Thanks for posting-Rhonda O.
