Go, Donna!

My friend Donna di Natale heard my talk about improvised quilts the other night and she's now feeling bolder. She found these wonderfully wild blocks several years ago and now is thinking of putting them together.

She wonders about the date of the fabrics. I say it's a mixed bag - there are some fabrics dating from the 1930s well into the '60s.

Donna is thinking of adding plain muslin sashing between blocks, which would be fine. But don't you think we should encourage her to go wild, to add all sorts of stuff? She could just add strips here and there as needed to fit the blocks together. She has plenty of vintage fabrics in her collection. She is thinking of using scissors to cut it out ... What do you think? Let's encourage her, check out her blog!
Go, Donna!

  1. Yes! Absoulutely. Sash with a variety of vintage fabrics and cut them scissors, just as they would have done.

  2. Thanks for the suggestion, Deb. I have a pile of vintage (40s) fabric that's been sitting there just waiting for a project. Perhaps I'll use those to pull these blocks together and blend the various decades.
