Mom's Hearts

My mom made some heart blocks. Mom has moved to assisted living and when I cleaned out her sewing room, I found them. I thought they weren't my style so I put them in our guild fabric exchange.

My friend came to the rescue: Barbara rescued them. Georgann decided they would make a nice little quilt and Roseann insisted on adding just the right sashing, even cornerstones! Georgann quilted it and made a label too so we won't forget the significance of this little quilt.

Today I will take this little quilt to Mom and hang it in her room. I think she'll remember the blocks. She has dementia now, but we get little gifts of her remembering things from time to time. At Easter dinner, she looked me in the eye and said, "It will be all right."

And look at her here, greeting granddaughter Kate at her recent wedding.

Now that is a gift! As are friends who help create a memory like this.

  2. Hello Deb, dementia is a sad thing, but like you said remembering things does come back from time to time and this quilt is a marvelous gift. Much love was put into her piecing these blocks and much love into you and your friends gifting them back in the form of a lovely quilt. I'm sure that your Momma feels incredible loved. Happy Mother's Day :)

  3. My Mom had dementia, too. She knew the little quilt on her wall that I made for her, she loved the lap quilt I made but would never let it out of the drawer -- for safe keeping. Love her while you've got her, I know you do.

  5. Ok you made me cry. I love the hearts. So grateful for great friends.. It was so good to see her at the wedding. She's as beautiful as ever. I remember the cat quilt she made. Also, the flannels you two made. You had such fun shopping for the flannels. Thanks for the memories. Your book is such a guide for this type of thing.
