Another apron that celebrates flowers! Look how the lace outlines the pocket. I am having fun imagining WHEN these were worn. Just for ladies teas? They truly are more for show than anything else ...
I love the aprons. I have a few vintage aprons I've bought from flea markets. Also my MIL passed in December and we found two in a cedar chest I was happy to be able to keep! I prefer aprons with bibs but the vintage 1/2 aprons are just too cute to pass up & not wear!
I am wondering if these sheer aprons with the floral pockets were worn over garments with the same floral design since they were for special occasions. They certainly don't seem intended for messy kitchen duty. I always figured whatever I spilled would soak right through that gauzy cloth.
I'm enjoying your vintage aprons and can easily remember my grandmother wearing them in the 1950-60's. She always wore a full cotton apron in the kitchen, and on special days, Sunday dinner or Thanksgiving, she would change her apron and put on a pretty little one, like the ones pictured here, right before taking the food to the table. Matching necklace and earrings were also an important part of her everyday look. She cooked a big dinner on Sunday January 10, 1965 to celebrate her 50th Wedding Anniversary and I took a picture of her and her 4 children as they stood behind the bed with my bedridden grandfather - She is wearing a sheer pink, pretty little apron. The pink apron matches a potted pink chrysanthemum sitting beside the bed. My grandfather is covered with a pink and blue quilt she made - pink was definitely my grandmother's favorite color.
