Happy 11-11-11

Today is the big day - Hail the Wale.

I knew I wanted my corduroy quilt to be impulsive and scrappy. I remembered this quilt by Anna Williams that Barbara noted was at the Brooklyn Museum.

I made a black and white copy of the quilt detail and commenced working. I made one paper pattern for the triangle shape. I cut out triangles and strips like Anna does, with scissors. And I made sure to ignore the nap so there would be variety with the wales.

In Deb Rowden style, it is not finished. But close! Close, and today I should have time to stitch the final seams of this start....

Hail the Wale. Enjoy the day, take a few moments to reflect at 11:11.......and many thanks to Nifty for taking the ball and running with this idea!

This one steals the show for me!
Love your quilt. It is definitely a 'Deb Quilt'. Love that little print in there and the chartreuse is just so perfect!
I have collected quite a few of corduroy pieces over the years . They are as bright and cheery as this quilt. Now I know what I am going to do with them.

Thanks for getting us all excited in the first place! BY thew ay, I had to use your idea of the food corduroy. Made myself a salad-quilt and enjoyed eating it too!

  4. Wow! I love all this color, texture and shape. It looks beautiful and effortless, just like Anna Williams' quilts, although definitely your own. I'm so glad you got us going on this. I think we should make it a yearly event!

  11. Just stopped by from Nifty's to enjoy your corduroy quilt--lovely. Also enjoyed your other quilting projects and the work of others that you highlight. So pleased to see that someone is keeping the memory of the old quilts. I did several posts on the quilts I inherited and am restoring.

  13. ohhhh my...fab! I'm having a go at replicating that very same quilt with all my crumbs! Can I be nosey and ask how wide/long where your strips? I think mine is looking a little to neat as I'm working with the rotary cutter and ruler...yours seems very organic in comparison!!! xxx
